saffy starts school-2

Saffy Starts Big School Information:

Saffy The Squirrel Starts Big School follows a confident little squirrel as she prepares to leave nursery and begin her next adventure. While some of her friends feel nervous, Saffy feels excited and she helps others feel brave too by creating a “Big School Book” full of cheerful drawings about what to expect.

The hidden message in this story gently reassures children that it’s okay to feel ready and excited for change, and that confidence can be shared with others. It encourages children to approach new beginnings with curiosity and kindness, showing that supporting friends is just as important as being brave yourself.

Saffy The Squirrel Starts Big School

Saffy the squirrel loved nursery.

She loved circle time songs, threading beads, and building towers with blocks. She loved painting with her tail (even if it got a bit messy) and reading stories with Miss Hedgehog.

But lately, something had started to tickle inside her tummy, not nerves, but excitement.

Because Saffy was getting ready for big school.

She had already visited twice with her nursery friends. She knew where to hang her bag, where the pencils lived, and where the toilets were.

Saffy had even met her new teacher, Mr Mole. He wore round glasses and smiled with his whole face. “You’ll love it here,” he had said. “There are so many things to learn.”

And that’s when Saffy knew. She was ready.

One morning, Miss Hedgehog asked everyone to share how they felt about starting school.

Some friends looked a little worried. A few were quiet.

But Saffy sat up straight and said, “I feel excited. I can’t wait to learn new things and make new friends!”

Miss Hedgehog smiled. “That’s wonderful, Saffy. Do you think you could help some of your friends feel a bit braver too?”

Saffy nodded. She had a brilliant idea.

The next day, she made a "Big School Book" filled with her own colourful drawings. She drew the lunchroom with trays and jelly, the coat pegs with names on little labels, Mr Mole waving a friendly hello, and even a picture of herself standing proudly in her new red jumper.

She shared it with the class and read it aloud during story time.

“I didn’t know there were blocks and water trays at school!” said Freddie Fox.
“I like the sound of lunch trays,” said Bella Bunny.
“Will you sit with me at school?” whispered Marnie Mouse.

“Of course I will,” said Saffy. “We’ll all go together.”

On her last day at nursery, Saffy hugged Miss Hedgehog tight.

“I’ll miss nursery,” she said softly.

“And we’ll miss you,” said Miss Hedgehog, “but I’m so proud of how ready you are. You’re going to shine.”

And Saffy did shine, all the way down the path, into the big school, and right up to her new classroom door.

Because Saffy the squirrel was more than just ready, she was excited for the adventure ahead.
