Milo – The Monkey Who Was Afraid of Heights
Once upon a time, there was a young monkey named Milo who lived in a big jungle. Milo loved to play with his friends, but he had one problem: he was scared of heights. He never climbed the tall trees or swung on the vines, because he was afraid he would fall and hurt himself. He always stayed on the ground, where he felt safe.
One day, Milo's friends decided to have a race to see who could reach the top of the highest tree in the jungle. They invited Milo to join them, but he refused. "No, thank you," he said. "I don't like heights. I'll just watch from here." His friends shrugged and left him behind. They climbed the tree as fast as they could, laughing and cheering along the way.
Milo watched them from below, feeling lonely and left out. He wished he could join them, but he was too scared. He wondered what it would be like to see the world from the top of the tree, to feel the breeze on his fur, to touch the clouds. He felt a pang of curiosity and envy.
Suddenly, he heard a loud roar. He looked around and saw a big lion coming out of the bushes. The lion had spotted him and was hungry for a snack. Milo panicked and ran for his life. He looked for a place to hide, but there was nowhere to go. The lion was faster and stronger than him. He was trapped.
He remembered his friends. They were safe in the tree, where the lion couldn't reach them. If only he had climbed with them, he would be safe too. He realised that his fear of heights had put him in danger. He wished he had been brave enough to overcome his fear.
He closed his eyes and waited for the end. But then, he heard a voice. It was his friend, Lila. She had seen the lion and had come to help him. She shouted, "Milo, quick, grab my tail!" She swung her tail down from the tree and reached for Milo. Milo opened his eyes and saw her. He hesitated for a moment, but then he decided to trust her. He grabbed her tail and held on tight. She pulled him up to the tree, just in time. The lion roared in frustration and left.
Milo was safe. He hugged Lila and thanked her for saving him. She smiled and said, "You're welcome, Milo. I'm glad you're okay. But why didn't you climb the tree with us? It's fun up here. You don't have to be afraid of heights. You can do it. You just have to try."
Milo looked around and saw his other friends. They were happy to see him and welcomed him to the tree. They showed him the view from the top, the birds and the flowers, the sun and the sky. Milo felt a surge of joy and wonder. He realised that he had been missing out on so much. He decided to give heights a chance. He said, "You're right, Lila. It is fun up here. I want to try. I want to overcome my fear."
He started to climb the tree with his friends, slowly at first, but then faster and faster. He felt his fear fade away and his confidence grow. He reached the top of the tree and felt a sense of achievement and pride. He had done it. He had overcome his fear of heights. He was no longer scared. He was free.
He learned a valuable lesson that day: that fear is only in the mind, and that courage is in the heart. He learned that by facing his fear, he could discover new things and have new adventures. He learned that by being brave, he could be happy.
And he lived happily ever after.
