Benji's First Day

Benji was a little bear who loved playing at home with Mum and Dad. His home was cosy with his favourite teddy and blanket. But today was different—it was Benji’s very first day at nursery.

He had heard that nursery was fun. Other animals said it was a place to play, learn, and make friends. Benji was excited but also a little bit scared. He hadn’t been away from Mum and Dad before. What if he didn’t like it? What if he didn’t make friends?

That morning, Mum and Dad took Benji to nursery. The building was big and bright. Benji could hear children laughing inside. He felt excited and a little nervous at the same time.

When they went inside, the room smelled warm and nice, like freshly baked bread. The walls were painted with soft colours, and plants grew in the corners. Benji saw a cosy corner with soft cushions and a big area where other animals were playing with toys.

Alice, the kind key worker, saw Benji’s worried face. She smiled and said, “Hello, Benji! We’re so happy you’re here today. Let me show you all the fun things to do.”

Alice took Benji to the Baking Area where some children were making cookies. “Would you like to help make cookies later?” she asked. Benji nodded but still felt a little unsure.

Just then, Rosie, a friendly rabbit, hopped over. “Hi, Benji! Do you want to play with me? I’m building a big tower with the blocks. We can make it super tall!” she said with a big smile.

Benji felt shy but said yes. They built a huge tower together. Rosie talked about her favourite things at nursery. “I love going outside to the garden,” she said. “We climb trees and look for bugs.”

Benji’s eyes lit up. He liked climbing trees too!

Soon, it was time to go outside. The nursery garden had trees, sand to dig in, and a pond to watch fish. Benji saw other children playing in the mud kitchen, pretending to cook. He joined in and forgot all about being scared.

Later, it was storytime. Everyone sat on the soft rug while Alice read a story about a brave fox. Benji was nervous when it was his turn to talk about the story, but when he saw everyone smiling, he felt brave. He shared that he liked the part where the fox made a new friend. Everyone clapped, and Benji felt proud.

When Mum and Dad picked him up, Benji was so happy. “I made a new friend named Rosie, and we built a super tall tower! I played in the garden too!” he said with a big smile.

Mum and Dad were so happy to see Benji smiling. As they walked home, Benji felt proud. His first day at nursery had been so much fun. He couldn’t wait to go back!
